STEP IN THE WHITE DIRECTION

posted by Elshane on Mar 16 2015, under Fashion

This week I stepped into spring with two feet forwards while breaking two classic rules in fashion that frankly, never should have been cemented anyway.

1. White shoes before Memorial Day is an absolute must.

2. A clutch for daytime is a big, fat DO.

Here, I stepped into a little European escape and strutted my little {actually huge, size 10} feet around as if I had an over-poured glass of rosé in one hand, and possibly a team of handsomely dressed Greek beach boys in the other.

Instead, I was really just meeting a friend for a drink in Los Angeles. But we can all dream, right?

COACHELLA OUTFIT INSPIRATION

posted by Elshane on Mar 16 2015, under Fashion

I can smell festival season and spring break around the corner. Aside from loading up on endless floral dresses, festive headpieces, statement sunnies, and body jewels, this season I made room for the most practical festival fashion element of all: comfortably cool thangs.

I remember day three of Coachella last year. My outfit called for a low leather wedge sandal, but when I woke up that Sunday morning, after two full days of being on my feet, I reached for my pink Teva sandals instead. Best.decision.ever. (Peek at last year's Coachella fashion diary throwback here.)

This year, I'm preparing my Coachella Teva sandals ahead of time! Luckily, comfort came in the form of Teva sandals with a matching JammyPack...oh yeah, that's the official name for this 90's throwback walkin' and talkin' boom-box slash stuff holder. Which reminds me... my hubby actually already stole it from me to wear to Coachella himself. Battle of the sexes!!! {I will definitely win this one.}

Will you dare to be comfortably cool this festival season? Shop the limited edition collaboration in my Shop The Look section below!

SINGING IN THE RAIN

posted by Elshane on Mar 11 2015, under Fashion

It wasn't supposed to rain today.

My day off plan was as follows: Chow deep into Soho House West Hollywood's Sunday Brunch Buffet (if you don't know...now you know {wowzas}) and then hit the Melrose Flea Market to walk off the five towering plates of brunch heaven.

Brunch, check. Flea market in the rain? Not so popular.

So instead, in my perfectly near-spring lewk, we twirled like Mary Poppins and did our Sunday's Best...

RIP CURL

posted by Elshane on Mar 9 2015, under Fashion

To go along with my "always trying to go against the norm" approach to dressing, it's rare that you'll find me in blue jeans. But, my new love for ripped jeans has me reaching for denim more than ever these days.

Rips are newly appearing in a display of surprising sizes and shapes {literally-- have you seen the knees on these bad boys!?} and I'm raising two thumbs up!

I've selected some of my favorite ripped jeans below for you to shop for spring. From a drop crotch pair with an overly ripped knee, to a patchwork ripped skinny, this new, new denim is a must in any spring wardrobe!

SPOTLIGHT ON: GRAY MALIN PHOTOGRAPHY

posted by Elshane on Mar 5 2015, under Home Decor/Entertaining

This Elshane's World way of life (you know, for the power chick who wants it all), really goes from head to toe, from inside out, from my closet to my living room. The keyword is GLAM!

Talk about full circle, funny story: Four years ago when I moved to LA from NYC, I visited a local flea market in hopes to bargain hunt trinkets and treasures to fill up my new home. I found myself in a booth filled with vibrant photographs that blew my mind-- donkeys, farmers, and everything else strangely southern perched perfectly in front of a lone Prada Marfa storefront. These images were very familiar to me-- I had seen them all over the internet by a famed photographer, and I figured I had stumbled into a steal of a re-print. I made BFF's with this cute local photog, and a few small bills later, the print was mine.

Within a year or two later, I had discovered the photographer Gray Malin, and recognized that he was the genius behind the Prada Marfa series. Although I knew I got my print from a tiny flea market vendor, it was exciting to know that I had a piece in my home that was inspired by the great artist. The piece was a no-fail conversation starter and lead me to follow each new series of Malin's work.

I even hung another series of Gray Malin-inspired photographs in my house after I honeymooned in Positano, Italy with my husband and had us each photograph the sea of orange umbrellas like in Malin's La Dolce Vita series. We framed our versions of "Positano Town" in our guest bathroom, and signed it with our honeymoon date.

But wait...the story doesn't end yet...

One perfect afternoon right after the 2015 new year, I decided to get my faux- Gray Malin Prada Marfa photograph re-framed professionally. And then it happened...

As the man at the frame store took my photograph out of my old frame, a business card fell off of the back of the artwork.

It read, Gray Malin Photography.

It was Gray who I met at the flea market that day. It was Gray who I bought my prized photograph from. It was Gray who was the photographer. It was, this entire time, an original Gray Malin Prada Marfa series!

My jaw dropped. I immediately emailed Gray from his email on the business card and asked him if I could come by to re-introduce myself, have him sign the work, and give me a big, fat hug.

The rest? History. Art history, that is...

Here are some photos I took while visiting Gray's office to have my work signed:

PREPPY BY DAY

posted by Elshane on Mar 3 2015, under Fashion

One article of clothing in just the right place can change everything...

Take this cozy beach sweater from Wildfox Couture...yeah, the one that I'd usually wear with black skinny leather pants and a perfectly paired boot. Now change your way of thinking. Subtract the motorcycle weekend babe and add the straight from tennis, but left my sweat on the court babe... and you are left with this perfectly preppy prima donna.

And for the girl who prefers baggy drop crotch on a Monday, and a pastel pencil skirt on a Thursday, hanging a "gone preppy" sign on my forehead doesn't seem so bad after all.

For the love of fashion, and playing the part of who you choose to be every single day of every single week...

GLITTER BEAUTY TRENDS: RUNWAY TO REAL LIFE

posted by Elshane on Feb 26 2015, under Beauty

There's something about New York Fashion Week beauty trends that always have me at hello.

This February on the New York runways, Rodarte adorned the bottom lids with a row of tiny Swarovski sparkles affixed by silver string. Ohne Titel took purple caviar microbeads (yes, the same beads we used to dip our gel nails into) to the next level by gluing them to the lower lids.

What I'm trying to say? If you don't have glue or dollhouse-sized tweezers handy in your makeup kit-- my solution is pretty.darn.perfect.

Introducing... my five minute Urban Decay fashion week eye. And no, this isn't a sponsored posts... I just live for this brand!

1. Start with the pinkish hue in the Naked On The Run palette (the one I describe in detail in this post). It's a good base eyeshadow color for all skintones. Natural yet noticeable.

2. Line the bottom lid with the Heavy Metal Liner.

3. Prime your lashes with the fabulously fun to apply white primer.

4. Top your lashes with Perversion, aka, Perfect Lashes.

5. Hit the town and have fun ;) <--- day or night, I actually prefer this look for daytime though.

BEVERLY HILLS HOLD'EM

posted by Elshane on Feb 24 2015, under Fashion

I don't think anyone shouts, "I'm going to Disneyland!!!!" with pure intentions of coming home with a new designer handbag and hat. But, hey, that's what makes my world a little peculiar I guess.

So, yeah...I did that.

I went on the Indiana Jones ride and landed myself straight into the gift shop where leather safari hats are as abundant as Mickey ears. Then I headed to the children's section of Minnie paradise and scored quite the evening handbag. A true example of "from runway to reality"...but in this case, completely reversed. From mass general population, straight to the couture closet that my stacks of handbags cheerfully call home.

Alaia and Minnie can finally meet! It all makes so much sense now...

Do I smell the next Disney movie sensation in the works?
