Into The Wild

We went to Aspen for the first week of March. The weather was mid to high 40's, even on top of the slopes! So what immediately came to mind? FashUN! I wanted comfy, cozy, cool.

So I did. An oversized glam t-shirt, chunky over the knee socks, and a fur so fabulous that it deserves its own post. It was passed down to me just the evening before I left on the trip, from my mother-in-law who handed it down to me from her mother-in-law. It must be 75 years old. Score!!

The look is a little street, a little sass, and a whole lotta Après Chic!

FAREWELL WINTER, HELLO FRINGE

posted by Elshane on Mar 16 2016, under Fashion

Let's throw two fingers in the air and collectively say PEACE to winter!

It's been real. The snow, the running noses, the endless fur-- I can appreciate it all! But let's be honest...

Spring is where the heart is!

Fringe has made its way through the seasons and it's not stopping for spring! It's actually such a forecasted staple that it's even being shown on the runways in Paris for Fall 16' and in endless campaigns worldwide for next winter.

I rounded up a few of my favorite lightweight fringe sweaters to transition during this season shift. Binge on Fringe!!

DASHING IN VELVET

posted by Elshane on Feb 25 2016, under Baby/Motherhood

What do you get when you put a snowstorm, a tight velvet (non-maternity, duh!) jumpsuit, some winter wonderland eye makeup, and an exaggerated faux ponytail all together? Only quite possibly the most fun moment of my entire pregnancy!

Who doesn't dream of being a balloon-sized snow bunny?! It was a grand moment, and I'll never forget it...

This jumpsuit is a staple in my (non-maternity) closet. I've worn her for everything from New Year's Eve dance parties, to conservative Shabbat dinners (oye vey), to date nights, and more. It's a feel good moment to be in a head-to-toe catsuit. And let me tell you, the feel good doesn't stop when you're sporting a bump. Fortunately she was stretchy enough to handle the 20 lb. expansion! Although she's three years old, Seven for all Mankind makes a nearly identical version right now. I'm almost tempted to buy a duplicate...

I had fun playing around with moderate winter wonderland makeup for this lewk. I'm always a big fan of an under the eye line-- it lightens and brightens and doesn't cut off your eye shape like if you were to do the same affect on the upper lid.

For this lewk I chose a NARS white kohl pencil as a base line, and then I followed the same line with a thin layer of my go-to Urban Decay Heavy Metal Liquid Liner (a sparkly dream), choosing the silver sparkles colorway to round out the "snowy" affect. Lastly, I applied a thin line of black liner around my entire eye to make the whites and silver sparkles truly POP! Ok, and of course I finished with some mascara and a brow pencil...

It was just enough to make me feel glam, without feeling overly done.

COLORS OF WINTER

posted by Elshane on Feb 17 2016, under Fashion

The notion of a dark winter wardrobe crashed as hard as the snow on this chilly Aspen day.

Winter threads should not be synonymous with darkness! Just because it takes an extra eight minutes in your hot morning shower to motivate, or an extra layering piece is required, or an extra slice of pizza requested, does not mean that darkness should prevail in this chilly time!

In fact, often the lighter the winter wardrobe, the chicer the look

Take for example, my mix-and-match of an off-white and grey faux leather and fur coat, mixed with a grey hat, stark white jeans, and a blush pink sweater. Each of these hues scream St. Barth's summer vacation! Yet, it works for winter... very well.

Test your devotion to chic winter style by investing in a wardrobe that will keep you classic from season to season. A year-round pair of perfect white jeans will do just that!

Oh, and hi! My Rebecca Minkoff booties that I'm wearing here, and haven't taken off all winter (and don't plan on taking off for all spring/summer either) are now 50% off here!

MONOCHROMATIC STYLE

posted by Elshane on Feb 3 2016, under Fashion

Have you tried white on white for winter yet? It's a must-- especially right now when your closet is starting to look like an unappetizing rotation of chunky knits and denim

And don't be afraid to mix all of those spare neutral tones lying around your closet. You can see from my lewk that my nude handbag pairs perfectly back to my stark white jeans and off white sweater. I didn't think twice about throwing together different tones, and you shouldn't either!

There are no rules in monochromic fashion -- let 'er all blend in!

ASPEN WINTER WONDERLAND

posted by Elshane on Jan 25 2016, under Fashion

Growing up in New York, fur was always a big part of the fashion culture. There was rarely a negative stigma behind the choice, in fact, it was pretty universally deemed chic, chic, chic. For me, cold weather is all about the fur coat. It's luxurious and fancy and fabulous and sexy and royal and haute and... feel free to throw in any other words to describe its regalness!

Point? Yes, I do wear fur. And I have a dog that I love, and I definitely follow many more pet Instagram accounts than human Instagram accounts, and I eat meat, and I wear leather shoes, and I always donate to pet charities.

And I'm perfectly ok with all of that. No need to explain any more. I'm really sorry if I offend anyone who's against fur.

If you feel the same way about fur as me, then I have a great new fur resource for you. It's called ML Furs, and it's based in Denver, Colorado. I recently discovered their website on my trip to Aspen

I especially love their fur accessories-- it's something that's pretty new in this fur game. This hat is similar to the hat I'm wearing in these photos (the hat I'm wearing is about 7 years old from DVF, so unfortunately it's no where to be found for sale these days)!

But, I'm all about these wild fur headbands now, anyway. They're very affordable, and very statement snow bunny chic! If you don't own any fur but want to take the leap, this is a great first step...
