






At New York Fashion Week this past February '14, I nearly fainted as I watched models walk down the Tibi runway, one after another, in a cornrow braid-hawk. I, myself, was watching this madness while sporting 3 right ear, side-swept cornrows, yet I felt so inferior to the bawsy braid-hawk!
Naturally, I ran back to LA (literally ran-- was faster than taking Jet Blue) and dropped by my salon mecca, the braid-bar at Nine Zero One, to have Nicole and Marissa braid-hawk me up. I had to show photos from the runway, because it was the first anyone was hearing of such hair talk!
My 'do was instantly coined the "elshane-o-saurus-rex"-- clearly a huge hit. I wore it for 5 days, often pulling back pieces from the top of my hair (see above) to give the braid a stand-out look.
This braid-hawk idea wins big points with the cornrows trend because it's not as severe/scary of a look as the side-swept cornrows (see me in side-swept cornrows at NYFW here).
A must try for all...
