Avocado toast is sort of that phenomenon that goes against any and every "beige" theory of mine (beige: boring, plain, snoozefest, lack of color therefore personality and spunk, need me to go on?). But avocado toast in itself is a bit "beige"; after all, it's comprised of basically two ingredients: one that half of this country has since banned in their diet (sorry GF-ers, you may have to sit this bread-fest), and another that half of this country doesn't even incorporate in their normal diet (growing up in New York, it was extremely rare to see avocado offered in restaurants or on display at the grocery store).
So what is it about this no-frills, "beige" dish that makes it so darn good?
What you'll need:
- 1 ripe avocado
- 2 slices of multi-grain bread
- EVOO (extra virgin olive oil)
- hot sauce, salt and pepper to taste
Toast your bread and generously drizzle it with olive oil.
Cut the avocado in half, pop out the core, and slice into slender sections. Remove each individual slice of avocado and scatter across your oil-drizzled toast.
Add hot sauce, salt and pepper to taste. And that's a wrap! Enjoy!
