SILVER STAR

posted by Elshane on Apr 11 2017, under Fashion

It's officially mini skirt season here in Los Angeles, and I'm doing the happy dance! Since I'm very openly NOT a jeans girl, mini skirts are my staple go-to, instead.

I find that a mini skirt can pair perfectly with nearly everything you'd typically wear jeans with. Fitted sweater? Check. Button down blouse? Check. Bomber jacket? Check. Plain white tee? Check. Check. Check.

In fact, the mini skirt staple is an instant wardrobe wow, no matter the occasion. If all it takes to look significantly more polished is to swap out the denim for a mini, while having the same outfit on waist up, then who's stopping us?! And just like THAT, your outfit goes from cute to killer...

SUNDAY FUNDAY: A PERFECT 1ST BDAY BASH

posted by Elshane on Mar 30 2017, under Baby/Motherhood

And like THAT... (insert swift finger snap)... she's ONE!

In true Elshane form, a celebratory event doesn't come and go without a celebration. Sunday's first birthday was no exception. But I had to be strategic-- this innocent soul wouldn't remember a thing from this special day-- so it had to be just enough, but not too much.

Basically, we wanted an excuse for our family and friends to gather, eat cake, and take epic photos to last a lifetime. Mission complete!

Here's how it all went down...

Sunday Funday was a natural choice for a theme-- I guess you can say it's less a "theme", and more a "mentality". But hey, that's how I feel about life in general! So yes, our mentality was Sunday Funday. We celebrated on a Sunday, for Sunday's birthday, which strategically fell on a Sunday this year. Yes, yes, yes!!!

The FIRST thing I did when planning the party was book the entertainment. I knew there was only ONE choice- The Beat Buds! They're basically like The Beatles of Southern California. If you live in or around SoCal, there's truly no other choice for kid's entertainment.

They strolled into the party with endless instruments both for them to play, and for the kids to jam out with, too. Their original songs (like how to say Hello in many languages) are so catchy that I honestly spied many parents boogie'n in their boots. (CAUGHT!)

Sunday said "BYE MOM" and hung out as a Beat Buds band groupie the entire party. No joke-- it's like I wasn't even there. (Ok, it was a little sad, but mostly thrilling to watch her undying independence and jam ability.)

And what's a party without Pinterest-worthy splashes of decor? That's where Minted came in. The stationery powerhouse was a one-stop-shop for perfectly pretty banners, photo backdrops, garlands, table confetti, and theme signs that sprinkled the entire outdoor space.

The washed pink canvas "1st Sunday Funday" photo backdrop was the icing on the selfie wall cake.

CALLING ALL INSTAGRAMERS!!! You can't forget the must-have party moment for any Instagram-obsessed chick like myself-- a selfie wall!!

With the help of Pottery Barn Kids x Emily + Meritt's newest collection that just hit stores last week, I created a swoon-worthy stars Teepee, lion and cat beanbags, metallic pillows, and pom pom garland backdrop that welcomed tots in for a cozy photo in perfect lighting.

And who can say no to babies in Teepees in perfect lighting?!

And lastly, the moment we had all been waiting for... the SMASH CAKE!! I wondered what Sunday would do in that first moment that sugar touched her sweet little lips. Some babies cry, some scream, some dive in face first and never let go!

Well... as you can see from the photos... need I say more?!

A RAINBOW A DAY

posted by Elshane on Mar 28 2017, under Fashion

Throwing a camo jacket over this blissful rainbow ensemble was a last minute door dash for me. And I'm ever so thankful! It took what was otherwise a classic case of happy fashion and threw a cool girl wrench in the middle.

Camouflage has always been a neutral to me (yes, so is leopard and rainbow, but still), so it was an easy grab over this colorful lewk. It works. I dig.

ANIMAL INSTINCTS

posted by Elshane on Mar 19 2017, under Baby/Motherhood

Leopard is my favorite color.

Leopard is a neutral.

Leopard is calming.

Leopard is healing.

Have I hypnotized you yet?

Doing a little matchy-matchy with the tot is always a fun time. I just realized that my last blog entry was a leopard post, as well. I guess that's what happens when it occupies 30% of your (and your little's) wardrobe...

Not sorry. Now back to regularly scheduled programing...

Leopard is organic.

SPINNING THE COLOR WHEEL

posted by Elshane on Mar 2 2017, under Fashion

We're in a bit of a fashion weather bind here in LA. It's sunny, it's chilly, it's winter, it's almost spring... It's a bit hard to dress when you're still trying to feel winter chic, but the sun is shining so damn bright!

So a compromise is in order. A 3/4 sleeve white T for layering, a tweed top that feels winter yet reads spring, and a skirt that both covers and shows leg. Oh, and this Chanel handbag enters scene as the rainbow frosted, double sprinkled, triple cherry icing on the cake!

I mean, what am I complaining about? It's too warm to wear boots? Boo hoo hoo!!!!!

COLLECTING BABY KEEPSAKES

posted by Elshane on Feb 27 2017, under Baby/Motherhood

I'm envious of my friends (you know who you are) who make photo albums after each vacation. Not an online Facebook album, not an Instagram hashtag; I'm talking an actual hard copy photo album that gets stashed on a bookshelf in your living room to dive into years later. I'm just not that girl.

Sooooo...now I have a baby, and I want to try harder to be that girl. Considering that all of her most precious baby items are literally the size of bagel crumbs, the idea of a keepsake box to store every token memory in one small space is practically genius.

Half of the box is for documents (think sonogram photos, doctor growth charts, etc.), and the other half is this miniature bookshelf-esque box in a box in a box system that fits her first shoes, first hat, favorite doll, and "come home from the hospital" outfit.

News Flash: I now AM THAT GIRL!!!!!

CLEAR AS BLACK AND WHITE

posted by Elshane on Feb 22 2017, under Fashion

Leave it to 2017 to arise from the taboo grave the phenomenon of the exposed LABEL! From our trendy underwear that read Calvin Klein across a big white band, to our uber expensive belts that roar MOSCHINO across the waistline; we're in an era of exposing brands and I ain't mad about it! Not one bit!

This tank top is cool....basically just because it says Chanel straight across the chest. And I'm ok with that. I'm also ok with the tattoo of GG's imprinted across my mules from heel to toe.

How do you feel about wearing your logo... on your sleeve? Comment below! ;)

#THESOCIALEDITION WITH VANITY FAIR

posted by Elshane on Feb 20 2017, under Life of a Stylist

I am sharing a major wow moment!

A select handful of social influencers were asked to be a part of a very exciting project. Here, we pay homage to the yearly iconic Vanity Fair February cover story (the Oscar's Edition), that features the 11 most powerful women in Hollywood-- the Oscar nominees!

A group of 11 Hollywood influencers were selected to recreate this iconic image-- down to every last detail. We're a mix of fashion bloggers, on-air hosts, authors, fashion stylists (hey, that's me!), models, and all around boss ladies. It was an honor to be a chosen one!

The shoot production was larger than life-- truly in the same style that any Vanity Fair 11-person cover shoot would be. Three makeup artists and two hair stylists, BTS (behind the scenes) videography, wardrobe stylists (I got to pick my own outfit off the rack, phew!), photographers, assistants, catering, you name it!

And, like the true New Yorker I am, I was more than thrilled to receive a 5-minute spray tan in my gown by Vita Liberata who sponsored the entire production!

What do you think of this parody shoot? Did I play a good Dakota Fanning

Here is a list of the 11 influencers in the shoot, from left to right:

@grasiemercedes, @elizabethkeene, @kathryneisman, @sydnesummer, @dianamadison, @elshanesworld, @tayehansberry, @makeupbyani, @makeupbylilit, @iamrachelmccord, @iamfashionlaine
