Empire of the Sun
Being that Halloween is my favorite holiday, and I d-i-e for outlandish face makeup and headpieces, it's natural that year after year, my loves unite into splendor. I truly never spend over $40 on my get-up-- I focus on creating the world of my costume from shoulder-up, and I use my typical pimpin' fly clothing in my closet to fill out the rest.
I made this headpiece by using 30 individual XL white turkey feathers, taped together behind a glitter cardboard and glitter pipe cleaner front emblem twisted design, with two silver glitter Converse shoe strings woven throughout to tie to my head. A $27 financial investment; a 1 hour time investment. Not shown in these photos are two more additions I added to complete the look before I left the house: Black leather fingerless gloves, and individually-placed silver body rhinestones forming a straight line from my center chest cut-out section, up to my neck. It was FAB.
This year, I was the Empire of the Sun lead singer. Between the three parties I attended {it was a fun night}, I had over 40 conversations with curious passer-by'ers. Four, yes four people recognized who I was. The rest...well the conversations went something like this...
CURIOUS PASSER-BY'ER: Sweet costume, Lady Gaga!ELSHANE: No, thank you.
CP: Ok, Native American?EL: No, thank you.
CP: Well, I can't hold in my curiosity any longer! Tell me what you are!EL: Empire of the Sun, obvi!
CP: Oh, yes, you're right! I love that movie. Oldie but a goodie. Great costume!EL: Um, it's a band.
CP: Oh, I'm sorry, I'm into really cool "new age" music like techno and hip-hop.EL: Sweet. So, like, Empire of the Sun?
CP: Don't know them, but no offense, not really my style. I like club jams and music festivals.EL: Sweet. So, like, Empire of the Sun. Enjoy your evening.
Crushin' hearts. elshane style.
