I enjoyed this shoot so very much! I wanted to illustrate how a mind could be fooled by fashion. I love how the textures of the dress and skirt play off one another. And then there are my D&G sunnies that I sought out for a year after seeing them on The Glamourai, only to find them in my favorite (secret) vintage shop. Plastic butterflies, the only acceptable kind.
My mother took me to a "memorable" surprise bonding day in Manhattan when I was 13. She said to wear pink and purple, so I put together my coveted Juicy Couture knits into a combination of pastel perfection.
We arrived at the Natural History Museum to the highly acclaimed Butterfly Exhibit, a greenhouse filled with tens of thousands of swarming butterflies that welcomed human interaction. I didn't like nor hate butterflies at the time, but I had seen The Birds. Within seconds of entering the death trap, thousands of butterflies swarmed full speed to my pink and purple pastel costume (their favorite colors, thank you mom).
I now have no words to express my deeply rooted fear of butterflies. But as a butter-phobic American citizen, I proudly wear my D&G sunnies with pride and conviction. I consider my relationship with them a healing process.
