How To Style A Photo Shoot
I get so many questions about how the fashion styling business works. Since so many of my styling gigs are celebrity-driven, it's not that easy to share tips and tricks on my blog, for the sake of my client's privacy. {Although I'm sure you all want to see how I line up underwear for Hollywood's elite!}
But last week I did the most breathtaking menswear shoot, and I'm giving you all of the on-set juice...
Project: DVRX Golf Shoot
Concept: An affluent young man travels through Greece in his DVRX gear
I was hired to style eight "looks" (outfits) incorporating the DVRX golf brand's polo shirts and sweaters. So, that means I needed approximately:
-26 pairs of pants
-14 pairs of shoes
-10 layering undershirts
-countless jewelry, small leather goods, hats, scarves, and sunnies
...Rewind. You read this all correctly. To style eight looks, you need at least 5x as many clothes. Options, options, options!
And don't think it's all glamour baby. A stylist is on her hands and knees, stuffing sweaty, hairy men's toes into shoes. One after another, after another.
Do: Always make friends with the cute male models. Ask to pose for Instagram photos with them.
Don't: Ask to pose for photos when you're working with a celebrity client! Not a good look ;)
And that's a wrap!
