NUDE IN FRINGE

posted by Elshane on Jan 6 2016, under Fashion

Taylor and I had so much fun in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico on our little holiday beach getaway. {I refuse to call it a babymoon because it sounds a bit cheesy, but yes, that's exactly what it was!}

Something about this trip was different from all others. We've explored the world together, from Istanbul to Paris to Hong Kong to Thailand to Tokyo to London to Capri to Rome, and the list goes on and on. The truth is, we're sort of travel snobs in the sense that unless it sounds utterly wild and "map sexy" (yes, I just made that up but I hope you understand what I mean), then we're not interested. Case in point? Another trip to Mexico just wasn't on our to-do list radar. It sounded a little too ordinary.

But fate had it that we actually booked a trip to Hawaii for this same week (which actually fell within our Mexico list of not that exciting-- don't even ask why!), but five days before our trip, Dengue Fever started spreading throughout the Hawaiian Islands. Because of my pregnancy, my doctor urged us to cancel our trip. So, with four days to spare, we re-booked a quickie to the easiest destination possible from Los Angeles-- a direct 2.5 hour flight to Puerto Vallarta to plop down at a charming boutique hotel on the beach for a week. "Map sexy?"-- we thought not-- but it worked.

And did it ever-- we look back as this being one of our best vacations yet. There's something so memorable about simplicity which I often forget. This speaks not only to my trip (wake up, eat, beach, sleep, repeat) but also to fashion and lifestyle choices I am trying to make. I always gravitate to the "map sexy", the different, the unique-- but this trip made me realize that simplicity is just as special, as well.

I hope to remember this lesson this year as I make choices in all aspects of my life. I will never sacrifice my penchant for the out of the ordinary, but I do wish to make strides in being OK with being beige as well. I guess the compromise would be... NUDE FRINGE!? ;)

Also, in this new year, I urge my readers to comment more on my blog posts. I have been loving the feedback I have been receiving from some of you-- it really makes my day! If you like, or hate, or have anything to say or suggest about a particular post, I would love to hear your comments!

STYLING A BEACH BUM{P}

posted by Elshane on Jan 4 2016, under Baby/Motherhood

I couldn't have asked for a more perfectly practical kaftan to cover my bumpin' situation at the beach in Mexico last week. It isn't easy sporting a bump in a bikini, and finding a cover-up that feels both sexy and functional isn't an easy task.

But to my pleasant surprise, I fell into this Australian brand, Dashiki Resort, and more importantly, this style kaftan, that checked all the boxes on my resort wish list. It was printed yet sheer, it was long yet bare, and it was sexy from head to toe!

Of course, without the bump, this kaftan couldn't be chicer, as well. I can't wait to see how it looks with a flat tummy!

PUCCI SIDE OF LIME

posted by Elshane on Dec 30 2015, under Fashion

Well that sums up 2015. A perfect Pucci mini, a little pot belly, some Chiquitas serving it up on my earlobes, and a fresh slice of lime. Couldn't have planned it any better myself!

This lewk sums up resort on fire in my mind...and the only way to jump into 2016!

Wishing everyone a happy and healthy New Year, and cheers to a fabulous 2016 ahead!

A MEXICAN RETREAT

posted by Elshane on Dec 28 2015, under Baby/Motherhood

First night in Mexico went off with a bang and a fountain of pesos as we explored the old town of Puerto Vallarta. Can't escort me past a Mexican woven market (think bags, belts, blankets, bangles, boom!) without me stopping to buy two, maybe three of each.

There's something so timeless about authentic Mexican ropas! You'll never find a chick out of style in a pair of worn in jeans, a white tee, topped with a Mexican woven belt and Mexican fire opal ring (sitting on a Mexican woven blanket grabbing her cell phone out of her Mexican woven backpack)! Too far...sorry!

But you get the point. I started to hoard my purchases...and the reveal will be pretty obvious over the next few months as I infuse my finds into my California winter wardrobe. Olé!

STYLE THE BUMP

posted by Elshane on Dec 16 2015, under Baby/Motherhood

When the bump is out to stay, you gotta let her play!

So play is exactly what I did. I grabbed those wrap dress ties by the horns, and wrapped around, and around, and around that belly until she became center focus. We can call it the "modern mom wrap" if we want to be chic, or we can call it the "hi, this is my belly wrap" if we just want to be frank.

Either way, it's working for right now. ;)

HIGH CONTRAST

posted by Elshane on Dec 14 2015, under Fashion

What's a trip to a Sunday flea market without perusing booth after booth of woven rugs, vintage jewelry, and dip-dyed cloths? {Insert flashing red caution lights here}: Must dress the part when diving into a sea of other people's junk... and a mini dress, knee high socks, and turban will always do.

I found this ALC dress on sale (you can have it here), and it's the perfect dress to hide a growing bump and a regular skinny gal 6-pack like my good 'ol self! Basically, it's a dress fit for all body types! Score.

I actually purchased this wild vintage necklace about 5 minutes before we started shooting this post. If you can even imagine, I dared to dress for the day without a necklace. It must have been fate-- looking back, the lewk just isn't complete without this chain of armor around my 'lil neck.

MUSEUM CINCH

posted by Elshane on Dec 7 2015, under Fashion

Sometimes all it takes is a pop and a cinch to take a piece of clothing to next.

This retro shirtdress can stand alone quite well, but with an unexpected pop of red, a dress suddent become a look.

I opted for white kicks because that seems to be the only footwear of choice to wear with dresses these days, haven't you heard? And seen? It's a fail-proof plan for street style success.

GILDED

posted by Elshane on Dec 2 2015, under Fashion

A gold pencil skirt is something I oddly didn't have in my closet until recently. I ask myself why? I love pencil skirts, and gold is the most regal hue of the rainbow, of course.

I was pleasantly surprised to find a bevy of gilded pencil skirts over the internet to choose from. For holiday dressing, I don't think it gets chicer than this. From office to party, or in this downtown LA prance, from museum to museum, a gold pencil skirt is so.right.now.

{Oh, and it's only $26.}
