BLACK MARKET

posted by Elshane on Jan 8 2015, under Fashion

What makes a leather jacket look "rich"? Is it the hardware? The texture of the leather? The overall way it falls off your shoulders?

I put this too fly to stand by slashed leather Nasty Gal moto coat to the test all day and night. I couldn't escape the raised eyebrows and whispers from jealie girls all around. Chicks dug the digs, thinking it was SO RICH that they pretended to know exactly which Intermix rack it slipped off of. {You know those comments? Something along the lines of, "That coat is so major-- props for the splurge!"}

Of course my natural response is always a genuine smile. Major realness!

ETERNAL SUNSHINE

posted by Elshane on Jan 13 2015, under Fashion

I found these Ani Lee pants at a sample sale and had an immediate swoon moment. They were missing buttons but that's an easy fix for a wardrobe vet. I planned on getting ruby or emerald vintage buttons and turning the pants into a bejeweled crown.

Instead, I found these vintage Chanel buttons at a premiere button store in Los Angeles. Such a small detail, such a big result. Now these pants are basically gold.

Do you own an item worthy of a button swap? {Weekend D-I-Y project alert!}

NEW NORMAL

Sometimes I can't control the G inside of me. Something about gold chains and a fitted cap that just makes me want to do a {Jewish white girl} shimmy down the block.

That's the great thing about clothing-- it can really be that icing on your confidence cake. My gold chains are like my warrior shields, my magic fairy dust, my glass slippers. They make me feel most me

Do you have an item that you can't live without? How does it make you feel? I'm mainly asking because I'm genuinely curious how not everyone else feels exactly the same way I feel about gold chains...

TUXEDO HER

Any sunny day is National Turban Day. Ain't no shame in my turban game.

This turban is actually just a vintage scarf tied in a rose knot in the front of my head. I just made up the word "rose knot"-- I basically just tied a knot that was a little extra poufy and tucked in the ends of the scarf underneath the rose bulb. A rose knot.

And now you understand why you need to go to college to be a fashion stylist....

Mixing sarcasm with straight truth everyday since '84.

FARMERS MARKET SUNDAZE

posted by Elshane on Feb 16 2015, under Fashion

I can honestly say I still don't understand the full appeal of a farmers market. Farm to table produce? Ehhh. The flowers are never as fresh as my go-to flower shops, I'm never in dire need of a homemade eggplant garlic hummus, and I'm more than fine with the organic bananas from my routine trip to Trader Joe's.

The only alluring factor is of course simply the activity of walking the farmer's market! What to wear, who to bump into, and most importantly, what batch of strawberries to throw on an Instagram post (why do strawberries get so many likes?!). If it was up to me, there should be a lot more time spent at a roller skating rink than at a stand of Brussel sprouts. But hey!

DESERT DESERTED

posted by Elshane on Jun 3 2015, under Fashion

You can guess by now that I'm that girl who wears the pants! ;)

Not any pants though... it's rare you'll find me in a skinny.

Drop crotch, wide leg, trousers, cropped, pleated, culottes, joggers... now that's more like it!

The truth is, I don't like skinny jeans because they're just so restricting and common. Finding a unique pair of pants is like getting the one slice of birthday cake with the name written on the icing-- everyone wants it, but only the lucky one gets it!

These pants are made for walking. And strutting. And smiling...

TEL AVIV ROMP

posted by Elshane on Jul 13 2015, under Fashion

It's rare to find a city in your travels that truly feels like home. This was the case when I stepped my little colorful toes into Tel Aviv, Israel for a long weekend in late June. Dressed in what could only be categorized as casual cool, I walked the city, from shopping on Shenkin Street to people-watching along the long stretch of Herbert Samuel, one of the coolest oceanfront roads stacked with beach cafes with menu offerings for all of your senses: Mediterranean salads, hookahs, local draft beers, board games, and beach games... on repeat!

If you aren't roaming the more religious streets of Israel like Old City Jaffa, Old City Jerusalem, and other conservative sectors, then light, airy clothing like this chic romper is a must! But, for touring those parts of town, I recommend long pants and shoulders covered to avoid offending the locals!
