ARMY DROPOUT

posted by Elshane on May 12 2014, under Fashion

I've been a huge fan of the drop crotch ever since I spent nearly a year ON TOUR with Justin Bieber {styling opening act Carly Rae Jepsen} and watched him eat, sleep and breathe the drop.

There's a certain air of confidence that comes with walking with a secret stash in your crotch. I've been known to carry extra gold chains and sometimes Peanut M&M's in the open, unused space. I can only imagine what Justin was slangin' in that crotch all year long.

Meaning? A drop crotch is only for a select few who are in need of multi-tasking. Or a third hand.

Do you dare?

VIRTUALLY VERSAILLES

posted by Elshane on May 29 2014, under Fashion

There's no better feeling in the world (back massages, basking in the sun, cracking open a lobster, coming home to a Chanel handbag at your doorstep)...

One of the greatest feelings in the world is when a woman puts on a real dress. A dress where she can twirl in her heels and watch behind her back as the fabrication follows with each turn of her head.

A real dress is one that makes a girl feel like a woman. Oozing power, sophistication, and a taste of seduction from every angle.

One she can slip on in the morning without an extra hand, and slip off at night without a peep. One that makes her go to bed with a stealth grin while recounting the steps in her day. In her real dress.

This Tibi dress is a real dress.

SHE WEARS THE PANTS

posted by Elshane on Sep 15 2014, under Fashion

This crisp Fall air is revving my work gut into overdrive. It's something about the change in seasons that excites the fire in my belly to work even harder and more efficiently. I see goals and dreams and pleasing people. Pleasing myself.

Naturally, New York Fashion Week proved to be the perfect exit from summer's light fare onto this freeway of fervor.

I chose pants for the occasion. I'm the woman in the driver's seat, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

DRESS ME UP

posted by Elshane on Nov 9 2014, under Fashion

This dress even makes a plastic hanger look glamorous. For all of the days that I live to put together unassumingly perfectly paired separates, there is something refreshing about throwing on a dress as a one-and-done polished lewk.

Of course, I say this as I'm laying in a mushy bed in a pretty crappy hotel room in Palm Springs for a brief work trip. I'm out here in the desert styling a pretty major somethin-somethin. Zero glamour happening here-- just a bunch of hard work. Fortunately, with just the right dress, the fantasy of glamour is my secret reality...

POWER PLAY

posted by Elshane on Nov 17 2014, under Fashion

From New York to LA, a power chick always keeps pencil skirts in full rotation. I tossed my typical black pencil skirts to the side this season in exchange for surprisingly welcomed brights and prints.

On this day, I was off to a few casual meetings in Beverly Hills, so a matching top was the only right answer. In a more corporate setting, I would have swapped the floral tee for a classic white button down, tucked in with a wide belt.

Always play the part...just never follow the rules!

STREET GRIND

posted by Elshane on Nov 24 2014, under Fashion

Finding beauty in nature is easy in Los Angeles—the endless greenery and topography is something out of a color-by-number picture book. You can twirl endlessly in a chiffon dress on top of a hill overlooking the ocean—but what does it all mean?

Now those gritty streets of Hollywood… that’s really where I feel most at home. As a native New Yorker, there’s something about the smell of the concrete that puts a little hop in my {Alaia boots} step.  No one can navigate past a lagging crew of tourists or a pack of homeless youth better than this city chick. Foot traffic is my street traffic.

To play the part of city girl in this green, green world... {continue reading after the jump}

LIPSTICK CITY

posted by Elshane on Dec 15 2014, under Fashion

The energy I feel when I pair like-minded, attitude-infused pieces together is unexplainable. Dressing in color, volume, print or texture isn't always about the shock value to others-- it's something that just makes sense in my life. It's not dressing up to stand out. It's dressing up to fit in... with myself.

This shockingly cool coat mixed with my vintage cat-eye sunnies add instant attitude to an otherwise typical New York black on black moment; a hop in my step and a shoulder swag to match.

You can't wear cat-eye sunnies and pretend to be beige inside. Just like you can't wear a pink winter jacket and pretend that you're not the lead character inside the most picture-esque fictional snow globe bubble town. Let the sparkly snow fall all over you, and brush it off with a smile.

GREEN WITH ENVY

posted by Elshane on Dec 23 2014, under Fashion

A monochromatic looks takes the win time after time. It's quite possibly the most effortless way to journey into chic-ville. Grab two like-colored items in your closet and pair away. Of course, if you're going to choose pink on pink, like I frequently do, you may not end up in chic-ville, but rather Candy Land...which is equally, if not more heartwarming IMHO!

Curious about what colors are best in a monochromatic scheme? Stick to safe hues to start like navy, olive, or ivory. Don't forget a smile and a shoulder swag to finish the lewk!
